Scholarship Application


Eligibility Requirements:
Must be female
Must be a high school graduate or a senior planning to graduate in current year
Must be a current Whatcom County Resident or plan to attend a Whatcom County School

Scholarship focus is on women entering higher education including technical or trade school, beauty school, community college or university.

What is the deadline for submission?
A.     June 1, 2013

How much is the scholarship?
A.     The Scholarship amount and number of scholarships awarded varies each year.  This year we will offer up to 20 scholarships in the amount of $1,200 each. In 2012, we gave 18 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each.

What is the review process?
A.     Application must be received by the deadline. The review committee carefully reviews all submissions and identifies those candidates that will be interviewed.  Once interviews have been conducted a final decision will be made by the committee.

Once I submit my application, will I hear anything back from the review committee?
A.     If you are a finalist, the committee will either email/call you to set up a time for an interview or if you are not a finalist, you will receive a letter advising you were not selected as a finalist.

If I am awarded a scholarship, is payment sent directly to me?
A.     No, payment is sent directly to your school or university.

Is scholarship award based solely on financial need?
A.     No, scholarship award is based on the entirety of the application including application, goals, past grades, community involvement and volunteer, extra-curricular activities, work experience as well as financial need.

If I receive a scholarship this year, can I reapply again next year?
A.     No, an applicant can only receive one scholarship.  If you apply this year and do not receive a scholarship, you may reapply the next year.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Application must be filled out completely for consideration.
  2. Please  download it in pdf format and submit before June 15, 2013 Deadline
  3. Type or write clearly.
  4. Enclose a copy of most recent quarter/semester unofficial transcripts or written documentation of acceptance to a post-secondary Education institution.
  5. Attach cover letter. (See Goals and Objectives Section.)
  6. Attach two recent letters of reference.
  7. Application must be submitted no later than June 1, 2013 via mail to the following address:

My first months at Creighton University (Omaha, NE) have exceeded my expectations as I slowly acclimate myself to the college life.  My classes are going well and I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to be here.  Because of the support of the Whatcom Women in Business I have been able to live my dreams and pursue my goal of becoming a dentist.  I would like to congratulate all of the finalists for the Professional Woman of the Year Award, as you women have set the standard for aspiring businesswomen like myself.  I thank you all again for your support in helping me succeed in this new chapter of my life.
